WHO IS CENTURY WOODWORK?

Well, that answer is far more simple to explain in its history than one page can allow. This story began back in 1983, when Mr. David Lee was working at a family-owned local building supply store. Because of his experience in many area of the building industry, including management, purchasing, general construction, and overall operations, he saw a need for something new. For many years before he arrived at this conclusion, he had struggled with acquiring specialty windows, doors and trim to complete the house packages that the salespeople had been requesting. The major manufacturers such as Pella and Andersen Windows simply did not have the ability or desire to supply these items to go along with their high-end standard sized products. So, being a young pioneer with entrepreneurial spirit flowing in his veins, David decided to open his own custom millwork company to meet the needs.

Though the first few years were slow like any other new company, within a decade he was producing specialty shaped windows and trim for almost all of the Eastern US. He quickly grew this business into three plants with over 160 skilled employees and a laundry list of products for the growing housing market. In the early 1990's, he added custom doors to the line-up along with a newer product that he became the main distributor for, expanded PVC boards and trims. The business continued to expand, but as it did it began to lose a sense of direction and became diluted by its large product and customer base. Beginning in 2001, Mr. Lee was looking for someone to take over this company via a buyout and run it in his image, while he took a well-deserved rest. Then, in the winter of 2005, the buyout finally took place, but by then David was tied in to work at the new company as the new investors had no knowledge of the industry or what it took to be a small business in America. Despite his best efforts as well as the rest of the staff, that company closed its doors in August 2007, leaving David and his co-workers as well as the industry somewhat stunned and wondering, "What's next?". The answer wouldn't take long to find out, as David Lee would soon have a plan for a new beginning.

Within 2 months of his original company closing its doors, Mr. Lee had established Century Woodwork Inc. However, he was older and wiser after 25 years in custom woodworking, and he knew this time he wanted to do things differently. So, he began his new venture by acquiring the help of some of his most skilled and loyal craftsmen from his former business to get things started. Their skills were razor sharp and ready to rebuild  a new dream. Then, David decided to streamline the products he would supply and simply be the best at what he knows, woodworking. Though there will always be a call for vinyl, aluminum and PVC, CWI would focus its efforts on wood doors and windows built in traditional ways and to the highest standards of yesteryear. In addition, CWI would also not get larger than what David and his family could handle on their own, which meant that he could inspect the goods and services being offered with his own two eyes and hands, touching and smelling each piece of wood that left the facilities for only the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Next, he contacted his most loyal and longest-running customers to inform them of his new venture, which they were all quick to follow due to their understanding of what David Lee's name means in the industry. After all, many of the other millwork shops around Georgia were started from the years their owners spent working with and learning from David himself. As a final step, David called upon his son, Gene, to come into his employment once again and bring his skills in automation, CNC production, and overall proficiency to aid in CWI's growth. Once these were in place, Century Woodwork was ready for action.

Now, after nearly two years, Century Woodwork is actually ahead of where anyone would have thought possible when it began. Despite the peaks and valleys that occur from time-to-time in every economy, CWI has maintained growth and stability in the marketplace. While other companies who lost a sense of direction and care for quality and customer needs have fallen or closed, CWI has seen its customer base and recognition levels flourish. After nearly two years, we at CWI are poised to once again become the leaders in our field. David Lee and his staff and company have seen all sides of the industry, both looking down and looking up. CWI doesn't claim to be the biggest, and we don't strive for it either. What we want to be is the best. The best service, the most friendly staff, the highest quality products, all on time and on budget, that is what we want. For we know that the best customer is a happy customer, and that's what keeps them coming back. We at CWI hope that soon that will include you as well.
